8AM
departure from 7/14 camp and an 18mi trek brought them to the Yellowstone
River at 2PM according to Clark. He figures from 7/13-15 they came
48mi from Three Forks of Missouri to "River Rochejhone."
The river joining the Yellowstone, near the 7/15 camp, honors Corps
member, John Shields. It still retains his name:Shields River.
Note the unique solution for solving horse feet problems. Clark's
7/15 note on mountains around Yellowstone River are Crazy Mts. north;
Absaroka Range to the south. |
