He kept "gliding" 73 miles and camped on an island across from Graveyard Creek near Hathaway MT. Rain and head wind made travel difficult; after 45 miles , passing the Tongue River,made 7/29 camp north of present Miles City. 7/30 heavy rain; "violent Storm from the N.W." caused high flow and more rapids.
