From 7/3-5/06 Clark followed the '05 trail in reverse as far as Sula. On the outbound journey the Corps met Flatheads who said a trail southeast would take them to the Beaverhead River faster. Clark used that information on 7/6/06 to cross the Continental Divide at Gibbons Pass to the Big Hole Valley.

Beyond the pass, going east along Trail Creek, Sacagawea "...informed [Clark] me that she had been in this plain...and knew...that the Creek which we decended was a branch of the Wisdom river [Big Hole River]...." They followed the creek to Big Hole River, near present day Wisdom MT, camping 7+/-miles southwest of Wisdom 7/6/06. Follow HWY 93 south from Sula, left on MT 43 to Wisdom to follow trail.

7/7: Clark led his party, south along Big Hole River, "...at a distance of 16 miles" came to this place. It's at Jackson MT. From Wisdom, follow MT 278 south to Jackson. After "dinner," They continued southeast, a little east of Big Hole Pass and camped. MT 278 passes this area.
