| From
Ulm you have a choice. Stay on old US HWY 91 to Cascade, or return
to I-15 to exit 254. Pelican Point Fishing Access is 6 miles south
of Cascade. The Corps restarted its journey from the "canoe making
camp" on July 15, 1805. The Captains walked on shore because
the canoes were overl loaded. Both noted Square Butte, south west
of Ulm, top left. Lewis described it: "... we have now passed
Fort Mountain on the right it appears to be about ten miles distant.
this mountain has a singular appearance it is situated in a level
plain, it's sides stand nearly at right angles with each other and
are each about a mile in extent...." The rest of the images depict
a morning at Pelican Point Fishing Access. Above, looking down river;
top right, up river. The Corps passed here on July 16, 1805. I camped
here on June 14, 2008. |
