The
two sites in Kansas City are not far apart - Kaw Point and Case Park
(see map above). Both were equally difficult to find; no signs to
either one. Kaw Point is accessed from US HWy 24 at the first exit
beyond the Kansas River and threading through an industrial area.
When you arrive, you are at the actual June 26-28, 1804, campsite.
The Kansas River merges with the Missouri flowing toward Kansas City,
top right. The Missouri pours around a bend, coming from the west,
past Kaw Point , right. A sign at the Kaw Point kiosk displays a facsimile
of Clark's journal entry marking the Corps's arrival, above. The kiosk
panels tell the story of the Expedition and supply details about their
time at The Kaw Point Camp. |
