Captain
Clark's journal entry for June 10 mentions passing this area, above.
Several information signs, described the Corps passing, are located
along the riverfront walk in Glasgow. There's a nice viewing platform
extending out from the bluff for a great view of the river. Locust
trees were blossoming in late May 2008. If locust trees were growing
in this area in 1804, they would have had blossoms in early June.
The Corps may have seen locust trees in bloom. However, no Expedition
member's journal mentions them.
From Glasgow, I returned south down MO HWY 87 in search of the Lewis
& Clark June 9, 1804 campsite. The June 10-11 campsite would be
too remote to locate. There was no indication on the Corps of Engineers
map of a sign there. |
