The previous page's views are from this red dot on the trail near the Missouri-Yellowstone Interpretive Center, 23 miles west of Williston, ND. Highways ND 1804, US 2 and then south on ND 5 get you there. As you face the rivers, the Missouri flows from left to right while the Yellowstone joins just right of center. Notice how far the old confluence was from the present one. The displays and signs are worth the visit. Historic Ft Buford is next door. Of course it didn't exist until 1866 when forts were established to fight local tribes. Several noted tribal leaders were detained here: Chief Joseph and Sitting Bull among them. I camped that night at Fort Buford surrounded by history.
