With
an abundance of spruce, pine, and fir nearby, work on the fort began
immediately. Close quarters for 33 people, and a dog, might have caused
friction among the troops. Irritation with the horrible weather, and
thieving Indians, are the only notes of discord in the journals though.
These images show the old fort, which burned several years ago. The
