Clockwise
from top left: Youngs Bay and the entrance to Lewis and Clark River
leading to Ft Clatsop; Cape Disappointment across the Columbia River;
northeast, back toward Grays Bay; Tongue Point. Clark and most of
the Corps were pinned down here by bad weather from November 27 to
December 7, 1805. Meanwhile, Lewis and 5 men moved out ahead to scout
the south side of the Columbia. They managed to get into Youngs Bay
and up the Netul River, now Lewis and Clark, paddling the one Indian
canoe they owned. The last three images mentioned were shot from the
top of Astoria Column. |
