"Chinese traders brought coins to the Northwest, like this one dating to the Qianlong era (1736-1795). Other trade items have been found at archaeological sites throughout the region, indicating long term Chinook contact with Asia."
"Maritime traders brought Venetian beads like these to the trading network during the late 18th and early 19th centuries."
Chinook Washington
Chinook villages along the Columbia River, and south to Tillamook Head engaged in trade with other tribes and many ocean schooners off the coast. They fashioned and maneuvered rough water worthy canoes essential for trading along the rivers and off the Pacific Coast. The canoe, above, is an exact size concrete replica on display at Middle Village-Station Camp Park. Right, a fishing net weight used by local native fishermen.
