These
signs are from the large collection at the Megler Rest Area. The top
right image is typical of the shoreline. It was much steeper in 1805.
The native canoes were much lighter, and shaped to cut through the
waves. Hundreds of years of trial and error perfected the design.
The Corps's blunt-nosed , rough logs just couldn't handle the major
swells. Fortunately, they had purchased a small native canoe earlier
and managed to get a scouting crew around "Point Distress." |
