Megler Washington
These signs are at the Megler Rest Area near Megler. On the 12th of November the Corps moved a bit closer to the Pacific Ocean, near the current Astoria-Megler Bridge. They had hoped to find more hospitable terrain. It was no better and their baggage had been left a half mile back at the "dismal nitch." Here, at "Point Distress," Captain Lewis decided to go overland in search of a supposed bay ahead, shown on an old George Vancouver Map.
