These
signs are at the Megler Rest Area near Megler. On the 12th of November
the Corps moved a bit closer to the Pacific Ocean, near the current
Astoria-Megler Bridge. They had hoped to find more hospitable terrain.
It was no better and their baggage had been left a half mile back
at the "dismal nitch." Here, at "Point Distress,"
Captain Lewis decided to go overland in search of a supposed bay ahead,
shown on an old George Vancouver Map. |
