The Holy Family Parish Log Church saw members of the Corps attending
services during the 1803 winter and spring of '04. It is a fine
example of the French style of log construction of the area. French
Canadians started settling here in 1699 and were the dominant ethnic
group until Anglo-Americans came in the 1790's. This is the third
church built on the site and, as the bronze tablet states, was already
four years old when the Corps arrived. Used for community social
activities as well as religious services, the building holds 100+
people ( it was not open for photographs that day). Lewis and Clark
most likely attended both kinds of events. The church is only a
few blocks east of the courthouse. Road signs will lead you there.
