The crossed canoe paddles, top left, form the "Welcome Gate"
at the south end of the Land Bridge & Interpretive Trail at
Fort Vancouver. It's the second of six Confluence Project sites
proposed along the Columbia River from Pasco to Cape Disappointment
Washington. Three other completed sites are featured on this website.
Some Northwest Indian tribes and Oregon and Washington civic leaders
proposed the project. Maya Lin, of Vietnam Memorial Wall fame, joined
with Johnpaul Jones, Native American architect, to create the largest
of the seven Confluence Projects. The ramp behind "The Old
Apple Tree," above, is the transition ramp from I-5 to WA HWY.
14. The Land Bridge spans Highway 14. A sculpted gate, left, adds
to the Native American theme of the Confluence Project.
