I headed north from Sacagawea and Sitting Bull monuments, near
Mobridge. This was my first long drive on Hwy 1806 - the road marking
the Corp's return. I needed to be on the west side of the river
to visit Ft Yates on the North Dakota section of Standing Rock Sioux
Indian Reservation. Here, you find another Sitting Bull grave, above.
The body has been secretly dug up and reburied at the South Dakota
site, and then back here, so many times that nobody really knows
where Sitting Bull really rests. A controversial situation at best.
An interpretative sign in Ft yates tells of L &C activities
here. The photo, top right, gives a view of the camp location across
the river.
