| Visitors
at the Sakajawea State Park can experience hands on items including
a couple of "smelling" sites; the wine cask, top center,
and one for "potable soup." Small glass cases, top left,
exhibit items local tribes might receive from trading their goods
with visiting tribes. The Snake and Columbia River confluence area
was a major trading center for tribes from all points of the compass.
Local tribes traded dried salmon for these items, far left, from the
Great Plains. A walk in tule mat lodge, above, lets visitors examine
its construction and view other cultural artifacts. |
