Pasco Washington
The Columbia River at the point of Sacajawea State Park looks more like a Lake. McNary Dam, down stream, holds back the flow. When the Corps was here, thousands of Wanapam and Yakama Indians lined the banks, in fishing villages, during the salmon run. On October 17th, Clark noted: "The number of dead Salmon on the Shores & floating in the river is incrediable to Say and at this Season they have only to collect the fish Split them open and dry them on their Scaffolds...."
