returned to WA HWY 124, from Fishhook Park, and headed west to Hood
Park. The Corps passed here on October 16, 1805 and camped at the
confluence with the Columbia River. The Columbia River was the first
river in the Pacific Northwest the Corps came to that had already
been named by western explorers. The Corps's arrival at the Columbia
also put to rest the conjecture that the Missouri and Columbia were
indirectly connected. The two images show the Snake River flowing
from the east. Hood Park is one mile up the Snake River from the Columbia
River. The interpretive signs are at the marina. The granite marker
stands in the picnic and campground area of the park. |
