Corps bivouacked on the west side of the Touchet River, bottom left,
right side of the image. On May 1, 1806, they continued northeast,
up the river - Top two images. They would follow this river for the
next two days. While camped at the Columbia and Walla Walla River
confluence, the natives told Lewis of this shortcut to the Clearwater
River. Lewis:"the indians informed us that there was a good road
which passed from the columbia...to the entrance of the Kooskooske
[Clearwater] on the S. side of Lewis's river [Snake River]...." |
