The
granite monument, top right, commemorates the Lewis and Clark Expedition's
October 10th camp at the confluence of the Clearwater and Snake Rivers.
The general camp area was across the river, behind the monument, and
in the photos, above. Clark gazed on these stark hills and noted:
"worthy of remark that not one Stick of timber on the river near
the forks...." He named the Snake Lewis's River. |
