Nez
Perce National Historical Park covers sites in ID, WA, OR, and MT.
This Visitor Center at Spalding is one of two in Idaho. Its museum
holds a significant number of cultural items. Top right, a pipe Chief
Joseph presented to General Miles after he defeated Joseph. Various
roots used as food, above. Ground camas root is at back left. An original
L&C peace medal was here until recently. It was discovered at
a chiefs burial site during railroad construction. It was returned
to the Nez Perce in 2007, according to a park ranger. Right, hills
near the center. |
