The
Lewis and Clark Resort is on US Highway 12, a couple miles east of
Kamiah. A magnificent mural spreads across the archway entrance to
the restaurant. It's a copy of Charles M. Russell's "Indians
at Ross' Hole." (Sula Montana) Note that Salish warriors dominate
the scene. This is their homeland and they intended to defend it if
necessary. Captains Lewis, Clark, and Sacajawea are in the distance,
on the far right. She is out in front, a symbol of peaceful intent,
left. The Heart of the Monster is directly across the highway from
the resort. This volcanic mound represents the point of creation for
the Nez Perce. It's part of Nez Perce National Park. The park covers
sites in Idaho, Oregon, and Washington. |
