This
segment of the Lewis and Clark Trail ends at Road 100, just north
of the intersection with Road 500 (Lolo Motorway). The motorway starts
here, heading east ( see page 206aa).
Hikers can tackle the trail in two sections, or the entire trail,
to Small Prairie Camp. This west end is a good place to leave a shuttle
vehicle for hikers starting from Clark Tree or Small Prairie Camp.
The Corps finally exited the Bitterroot Range at this point. They
were ragged, hungry, and ill. Top right, a sample of the constant
deadfall barrier the Corps negotiated across these mountains - Captain
Clark's "bad falling timber." |
