the
Lewis and Clark Trail, west from Lewis and Clark Grove, began to show
fall colors when I hiked it in mid-Septerber. Capt. Clark, with his
six hunters, and Capt. Lewis, with the main party, passed through
the same area 200+ earlier. Lewis would have been interested in studying
a mushroom growing on a stump, top left. The day before, he meticulously
described several species of birds and plants, in a long journal entry.
The hip joint of an animal (deer?), above, reminded me of the many
bones the Corps must have left along the trails. |
