Lewis & Clark Trail-Lolo Montana
Guide posts, with a numbered metal cottonwood leaf design, match the Travelers' Rest Preservation & Heritage Association pamphlet giving facts about the site. Top left and right, the #7 post and signs indicate the latrine placement. Archeologists pinpointed its location by discovering traces of mercury in the soil (see previous pages for an explanation). Bottom left and right, post #5 points out the old Lolo Creek bed, closer to the camp. Archeological studies show that three cooking spots were in the foreground, above, and the old creek flowing behind it. There are nine guide posts along the trail.
