After
drinking water from what he believed to be the origin of the Missouri
River, Lewis crossed over the Continental Divide and "here I
first tasted the water of the great Columbia river..." It may
have been Agency Creek, running down the canyon, left, or a spring
near Flume Creek. When Meriwether Lewis, George Drouillard, Hugh McNeal,
and John Shields crossed Lemhi Pass, they left US territory. The entire
Corps would cross over by August 26 1805. |
