From
Dillon, I had to drive I-15 to visit the places on the previous two
pages - no side roads along the river through Clark Canyon. The Corps
of Discovery Trail veers west at Clark Canyon Reservoir. I exited
I-15 at the dam exit and followed a road to the campground north of
the dam. The nearby Cattail Marsh Nature Trail follows along the first
segment of the Beaverhead River. Clark Canyon Reservoir has inundated
the "Jefferson's River" headwaters formed by the Red Rock
River and Horse Prairie Creek. Here, along the nature trail, are more
examples of how the crews had to struggle along the brushy banks of
the river. William Clark and crews hauled their heavy canoes past
here on August 17th 1805. They had already met George Drouillard with
a group of Shoshone warriors, sent by Lewis to find Clark. |
