The
Lewis and Clark Monument stands on a high bluff north of Council Bluffs.
Follow I-29 north, take Exit 25 and follow Monument Road to the top.
The scene, in bas-relief, depicts the first meeting between Lewis
, Clark and notable Oto and Missouri Chiefs. The actual council took
place several miles up the Missouri on the other side of the river.
On July 28, hunters found three Indian skinning an elk near here.
The natives talked to Clark and agreed to meet, later,up the river.
