Bison
and prairie dogs would soon appear in great numbers. The diorama,
top left, shows the prairie in the early 1800's. A bison scapula tool,
left, reminds visitors the Native Americans made skillful use of animal
parts. The all important sextant used to locate geographic position.
This display offers a good close look at the instrument. The Expedition
stayed at the July 16 camp the next day to make accurate observations
of the sun to determine their geographical position. Two days later
they passed here on the Missouri. |
