Fort
Rock has a good view of the Gallatin River. Clockwise from top left;
flowing from the east, flowing toward the Missouri River, and at the
base of Fort Rock, Above, the confluence of the Madison and Jefferson
Rivers, to the southwest. On July 28th, the Captains named the rivers.
Lewis: "Both Capt. C. and myself ...agreed to name them after
the President of the United States [Thomas Jefferson] and the Secretaries
of the Treasury [Albert Gallatin] and state [James Madison]."
