Three
wagons are arranged as they might have been in a trail camp. The two
wheeled Red River cart, top left, between the wagons, became popular
for light travel. The Mormons used them on their 1846 migration to
Utah. These wagons are typical of outfits for most families. One exception
was James F. Reed's oversized Palace Car. It has been blamed for the
slow progress of the Donner-Reed Party. A display inside the trail
center, left, shows supplies carried on these long journeys. |
