The
interpretive panel, on the California Trail Center patio, describes
Pilot Peak as a guide post for emigrants. It's one of many geographical
features along the various trails leading west from Missouri trailheads.
A series of springs lies a few miles east of the peak. The most notable
one, Donner Spring, right, is located behind a ranch house on private
property. It is open to the public. See the first few pages of the
2006 expedition along Hastings Cutoff for details. |
