The
canyon looks fairly wide just below the dam, top left. A Railroad
section plaque along HCO here has Heinrich Lienhard's description
of the convoluted narrow passageway emigrants would face before exiting
to Humboldt River and the California Trail. Possible old ruts follow
the right side of the canyon, right center. Rangers believe these
are authentic HCO artifacts. South Fork Humboldt River flows through
the canyon, left and above. As Heinrich Lienhard left the canyon and
HCO, he suggested that the trail be named "Hastings' Long Tripp." |
