The Franklin River runs from the East Humboldt Range south through the Ruby Valley. It sinks into the water table before reaching its namesake Franklin Lake. HCO crosses the river on the HWY 229 bridge. These photos were taken on or near the bridge. Emigrants would not have seen this volume of water in August or September. The riverbed might have been bare.
