Halls
Spring lies at the foot of Pilot Peak, top left. This peak was the
guiding beacon for travelers crossing the Great Salt Desert. The railroad
trail sign, top right, points north-south, the course of the trail
from Donner Spring, past Halls Spring, to Little Salt Spring. From
there, the trail turns west over Bidwell Pass. Being the first emigrants
to use this route, the Bidwell-Bartleson wagon train had no trail
to follow. Five years later, the Donner-Reed party followed vague
directions from Lansford Hastings. Bottom left and right, views south
from Halls Spring. |
