After leaving Donner Spring, travelers
found a series of water sources as they walked south toward Bidwell
Pass. Halls Springs was the largest; the view east, toward Great
Salt Lake Desert, top right. Halls Spring was our first non-saline
water source after a day and half of searching for Donner Spring.
The other photos occurred in September when I returned by vehicle.
Cows pastured in the springs then, top left. A large bird soars
over Halls Spring, right. Railroad track segments with plaques
mark many emmigrant trails in the West. James John was a member
of the Bidwell-Bartleson party; the first wagon train to attempt
to get to California.
