Lewis & Clark Trail
Brunswick Missouri
The Grand River drifts past Brunswick on its way to the Missouri several miles south of the town. The main channel of the 1804 Missouri follows much of the present river's course according to Corps of Engineers' maps. How did the Captains get so far from the main river? The map shows a strand of the old river coming in from the northwest - pretty much the same channel as the Grand River follows today. They must have been following this course to the point where the Grand River met it. In these photos the Grand looks grand. If the old Missouri northwest branch was this wide, it would have been easy to think it was one of the main Missouri channels.
