Missouri Breaks
Missouri River
Lewis & Clark Trail
Montana
The Captains and other expedition members often walked on shore. Some to hunt, others to explore, and the Captains to make observations. They passed through this area on June, 1st, 1805 but made no specific reference to these unique, rounded, sandstone bluffs. Lewis wrote: "The weather was cloudy with a few drops of rain. As we proceeded , by the aid of our cord [towing the boats], we found the river-cliffs and bluffs not so high as yesterday."
