Hole-in-the Wall is the best known natural landmark in the White Cliffs
area of the Upper Missouri National Wild and Scenic River. Top right
and bottom left: looking up river it's hard to see the opening in
the sandstone cliffs. Neither Lewis nor Clark mentioned it. Geologists
figure that the opening hadn't been there in 1805-06. Bottom left
and top right: Our ROW canoes approach Hole-in-the Wall moving down
river. The opening is visible at the left end of the wall of sandstone.
