Lewis arrived from St Louis on May 20th and the Corps of Discovery
continued its ascent of the Missouri the next morning - leaving the
last major white population until their return. I continued along
the river on state highway 94. It roughly follows the north side of
the Missouri from St Charles to Jefferson City. The Corps stopped
near Weldon Spring Conservation Area May 22, 1804. By now, Lewis was
walking the hills and fields classifying plants and animals. He may
have seen flowers and blue stem grass like these. |
