The
Salt Works site is tucked into a residential neighborhood 15 miles
southwest of Ft Clatsop. Clark had scouted the area when he and 5
men blazed the 7 mile Fort to Sea Trail. They continued another 8
miles, along the coast to a Clatsop village at the Necanicum River.
On December 28, 1805, Clark sent J. Fields, Bratton, and Gibson to
the area to make salt. This is a smaller scale replica of the fireplace
and kettles. It's difficult to find from downtown Seaside - south
on G Street and right on Lewis and Clark Way. |
