Fort Clatsop

Tom Bird, above, doesn't claim to be Pierre Cruzatte, but plays a mean fiddle and delights the crowds as Cruzatte did for the Indians along the trail. Right, a close look at Tom's moccasin construction skills. Patrick Gass wrote that the Corps made 338 pair while at Fort Clatsop.

Esther Steiner, assisted by Bill Millar, teaches visitors about the firearms used by the Corps and Indians. Lewis had purchased 15 muzzle-loading, flintlock rifles, above, at the Harpers Ferry arsenal. Some Corps members, carried their own weapons.
