| Images, left, and bottom right show Cliff Point, along the north shore of the Columbia River; bisected by WA HWY 4. According to Jim Sayce, Lewis & Clark Trail Heritage Foundation board member, this site is William Clark's "Dismal Nitch." Working with Corps journals, and geologist during the trail bicentennial, Sayce gathered enough geological evidence to reconstruct the original cliff face. The site is 2 miles east of the Dismal Nitch Rest Area. |
