in 2010, this Confluence Project site is one of 6 completed or planned
in Washington and Oregon. Four will be in the former and two in the
latter state when completed. Architect and artist Maya Lin is creating
the projects. She created the Viet Nam War Memorial, known as "The
Wall." Her sculptures usually have words from the Lewis and Clark
Journals or Native American sources. Here, the circles name animals,
plants, and materials used seasonally by local Native Americans. The
