Oahe
Dam, just north of Pierre, creates Oahe Lake out of the Missouri River,
The lake reaches north almost to Bismark North Dakota. All of the
Arikara village and L & C sites are submerged. About half way
up the lake, the town of Mobridge reveals an interesting history through
a cast iron map. Within a 30mi radius many historical events happened
- see the close view, bottom right. The half round black icons are
Arikara village sites. The Corps spent Oct 8-12 here. Top right, location
of Sitting Bull grave and Sacagawea monument across the Missouri from
Mobridge. |
