Lewis & Clark Trail
This bridge crosses the Snake River as part of WA HWY 261. The highway continues northwest past Lyons Ferry Park where camping, swimming, and boating occur (see previous page). The Corps faced serious rapids at the Tucannon, Palouse and Snake confluence. Private Whitehouse: "We took 2 of our Canoes at a time down the Rapids. The Men...that could not swim...went by land.... They carried...some Rifle Guns & Mathematical Instruments &ca. We were fortunate in getting all our Canoes safe over these Rapids."
