Situated
near the capitol in Pierre, the center has artifacts and displays
covering the full span of South Dakota's past. I photographed only
those things linked to the Corps of Discovery. The Arikara bull boat,
right was typical of what they saw. Many chiefs carried similar staffs
like the one above. The lead plate, top right, records a visit by
early French-Canadians to the area in 1743 - the De La Verendrye Plate. |
