I'm sure the Corps didn't have time to enjoy the fall colors on their trek up Wendover Ridge. They had no water, after refreshing themselves at the spring, and had to push to the top to find a snow bank. They were also busy constantly rescuing fallen horses. Exploring this trail puts you very close to The Corps's experience even if you have better weather and some food.
