The rough hewn water trough, right, points to a spring in the brush. This may be the spring Clark pointed out: "... 4 miles up the mountain I found a Spring and halted for the rear to come up and to let our horses feed and rest..." It's about 4 miles up the trail. The Corps had low visibility from snow and sleet. At the same time of year, mine was obscured by a forest fire.
