As
Meriwether Lewis and his companions crossed the Continental Divide
on August 12th, William Clark and the other Corps members were still
struggling toward Dillon MT, far down the Beaverhead River. Lewis's
group moved on, following an Indian trail, hoping to catch up with
the elusive Shoshone. Right, the approach to Lemhi Pass from the east.
Top right, the view west from the pass. Captain Lewis was shocked
to see row upon row of mountain ranges to the west. |
